I suspect the issue has to do with the composition of the candy itself. It's got a peanut based filling with a fairly unique taste and texture, along with a semi-chocolate-based candy shell.
Due to it's configuration (Basically it's not a homogeneous blob) it doesn't "scale" upwards very well. The chocolates and filling have to change to maintain structural integrity, and the proportions of choco-candy-to-filling you get in your mouth change due to basic geometry.
I'm surprised by the dead face dicks complaints. I've read enough SMBC to see that as being pretty trivial, relatively speaking. Would be nice to get a little more insight into what exactly upset people (though I can't remember this particular strip).
Actually, as a huge fan of SMBC, I have to warn anyone intending to do this that the first ~1000 or so comics are simply not that funny. I went back and tried to read SMBC from the beginning a few months ago because SMBC is the only webcomic I currently follow where I find almost every one funny. I gave up after a few hundred since they were just so awful. He's a gotten a lot better over the years.

I met this Republican at a Seattle comic-con. It was amazing how much hate he had for us. The way he looked down on us was as bad as a Republican senator. He isn't as important as one of them, but that is how he do.
